Preparation and maiden voyage from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean

There are month long preparations anteceding such a planned long range tour. First thing is to choose the right boat and order it. My choice was a catamaran for several reasons and the size was accordingly to the size of the wallet, insight dictated a serial production boat, where maintenance could be obtained anywhere. Benetau has such a ship in its vast program and so I ordered a Lagoon 420, to be delivered in April 2008. Some parts were ordered separately, such as Caribe dingi, Honda outboard, chargers and inverter, upholstery and sunblinds, 100 m stainless chain and anchor, all things the yard would not deliver to my choices. Logistics fitted and all things were duly delivered, so we could take possession of the boat 15th of March in Les Sables d`Olonne in the Normandy. 15 cartons with our goods were already brought on board and we wondered where to store all the stuff, but a cat has space and soon all goods were stored and evenly distributed, the ladies arrived and the ceremony of christening the boat was performed with lots of bubbly. Cool rainy day, but wonderful. The name is Fortuna and our motto is “fortuna audaces iuvat” old Latin saying that luck helps the audacious.

The maiden voyage begins in the Biscay third of April and the bay lives up to promises and delivers cold, sun, rain, storm, typically Atlantic in springtime.
Via La Coruna, Viana do Castello, Vila Moura, Barbate and through the straits of Gibraltar we sail to Ibiza and then Mallorca, where we berth the boat in Port Andtratx.
